Phyllis Rae Jacobson, 80, of West Fargo, ND, passed away May 30, 2017 at Sanford Hospital.
Phyllis Thies, one of seven children, was born to Henry and Loretta (Glaser) Thies on March 1, 1937 in Lake Andes, SD. They made their home in West Fargo ND, where she attended West Fargo High School and graduated in 1955. In 1956, Phyllis married Raymond Johnk of Sabin MN. Ray passed away as a result of an accidental drowning on December 7th, 1968. On February 9, 1974, Phyllis married Joseph Jacobson and they made their home in West Fargo.
She worked for several years in food services for the West Fargo School System, at Hornbacher’s Express in Fargo, and finally at Swanson Health Products for seven years before retiring in 2002. Over the years, Phyllis enjoyed taking the kids to her parents’ farm in Hawley, MN as it became the perfect gathering place for the entire family. Phyllis also loved cheering on Joe every Friday night at the races for at least a decade or two. When he quit racing, she found other things to keep her busy. She spent hours on end working outside in her yard. A visit to their house in the summer always ended with a “dirt tour” so she could show you all of the beautiful flowers she planted. Phyllis also enjoyed finding treasures and bargains at the thrift stores and going to the casino to try and win big. At her 80th birthday party this spring, she ended her speech with “Everyone knows I like to have fun!” Truer words were never spoken.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Loretta Thies, her first husband Ray Johnk, her brother Bill Thies, and sister-in-law Doris Thies.
Survivors include her husband Joe, sons Randy (Patty) Johnk of Fargo, Steve (Tara) Johnk of West Fargo, Joe Jacobson (West Fargo) and daughters Diane (Rod) Abrahamson of West Fargo, and Julie (Ron) Flint of Guemes Island, WA, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by brothers Dean (Katy) Thies, Alamo, TX, Dale (Diane) Thies, Fargo ND, Tom (Marianne) Thies, Jefferson City, MO, Calvin Thies, Fargo and sister Gale (Larry) Keane, Kennewick, WA, along with many nieces and nephews.
