Kenneth Christl, 92, Durbin, ND died peacefully on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Sanford Dialysis Unit, Fargo, ND surrounded by the loving nurses and staff.
Kenneth Julius Christl was born Sept. 9, 1925 at Absaraka, ND to Gustave and Rose (Kapaun) Christl. He attended grade school through 8th grade at Durbin and Casselton High School. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 in the Philippines and Japan after which he returned to Durbin where he farmed all his life. Ken married Berneyce Rohde on Nov. 15, 1948 in Casselton, ND. He worked for Dalrymple Farms and later farmed on his own renting land in the area and custom harvesting for neighbors and friends.
He was a life member of the VFW and member of the American Legion. He served on the Durbin Elevator Board. One of his passions was playing black jack along with the occasional trip to the casino.
Kenny is survived by a son, Steve of Durbin; granddaughter, Mercedes; many nieces and nephews; and Darlene his faithful caregiver.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Berneyce; an infant son; brother, George and a sister, Dorothy (Melvin) Scherweit.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Leo’s Parish or the Sanford Dialysis Unit on South University Drive in Fargo.
Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.
Funeral Mass: Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: St. Leo’s Cemetery.
