Myrtle Farrell, 108, Casselton, ND died on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Villa Maria Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Susannah Myrtle Jendro was born Dec. 6, 1908 in Fargo, ND to Joseph and Carrie (Hanson) Jendro. She grew up and attended rural schools in Cass County. Myrtle married James Farrell on Oct. 7, 1935 at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Casselton. They made their home in Casselton until 1939 when they moved to Mapleton, ND where he managed the Mapleton Co-op Oil Co. Myrtle often worked alongside Jimmy changing car tires or pumping gas. Jimmy died on Dec. 22, 1979. Myrtle resided in Mapleton until 1986, when she moved back to Casselton. At the age of 102, she returned to Mapleton to live with Tom and Jean Madsen and in January of 2016, she entered Villa Maria.
She was a faithful member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church. She was known for her quilting which she did up until the last couple of years. She quilted nearly 100 of them each year for several years. She put her seamstress abilities to work making wedding dresses and other clothing. Myrtle also enjoyed gardening. While in Mapleton, her home was known as a community storm home where kids would come if the weather was bad. They thoroughly enjoyed sharing their home.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Mark Jendro; and two sisters, Clara Wittmann and Hazel Trom. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM with a prayer service at 8 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday at 4 PM at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: St. Leo’s Cemetery.
