Lydia E. Knight, 103, of Moorhead, formerly of the Amenia, ND area, passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Lydia E. Knight was born January 28, 1914 in Tuttle, ND, the daughter of Wilhelm and Katherine (Mauch) Horning. She attended school in Tuttle and worked in house keeping and cafes prior to her marriage to Percy Knight on March 28, 1936. The couple farmed near Amenia and raised five sons and two daughters. Percy passed away February 7, 1985. Lydia left the farm in 1987 to live in Amenia until moving to Eventide, Moorhead in 2004.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Women’s group in Casselton, teaching Sunday School there for twelve years. Lydia sewed and quilted for the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, attended neighborhood Bible studies and was a member of the Brazilian Embroidery Club. Lydia enjoyed traveling to Europe, fishing, cooking, quilting, reading, sewing, gardening, learning and had a special love for children. She is to be remembered for her Christian values.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children: Lloyd (Deloris) Knight of Fargo, Dorothy (Donald) Funk of Sibley, IA, Vernon (Marlys) Knight of Moorhead, Arnold (Mary) Knight of West Fargo, Colleen Knight of Des Moines, IA, Richard (Sandra) Knight of Bloomington, MN and daughter-in-law: Jan Knight of Mount Carol, IL; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a sister: Louise Knight of Enderlin, ND.
Preceding her in death: parents; husband; son: Dennis; granddaughter: Colleen Lundequam; siblings: infant George Frederick, Minnie Williams, Fred, Edwin, William "Bill" and Adam Horning.
Memorials are preferred to the Cass County Community of Care, Casselton Ambulance or Red Bird Mission.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2017, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday followed by at 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service in the funeral home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo
