Vera Irene Zimbelman was born August 12, 1930 in Goodrich, ND to Carl and Katie (Kessler) Zimbelman, the youngest of 9 children. When Vera was a young child, her family moved to McClusky where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1948. Vera attended Minot State Teachers College for a period of time; after which she taught in a Sheridan County country school and worked in various secretarial positions. Vera married Alan Wahl on December 19, 1954 in McClusky. They farmed near McClusky until 1996 when they moved to Hazen, ND and later settled in Fargo.
Vera’s favorite past-times included embroidery, baking, reading, and staying in touch with friends and family through handwritten letters. Her greatest joy was serving family and friends through a special meal, a kind word, a smile, or volunteering at Oak Grove Lutheran School and Bethel Church. Above all, she loved Jesus; her constant prayer was to honor Him with her life.
Vera died Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the age of 90 years and 11 months at Pioneer House Assisted Living in Fargo surrounded by family and under the care of Sanford Hospice.
