Shirley Rae (Monette) Anderson

Shirley Anderson, 65, Harwood, ND died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018 at Rosewood On Broadway, Fargo, ND.

Shirley Rae Monette was born Jan. 3, 1953 at St. Vincent, MN to John and Betty (Johnson) Monette. She grew up at Pembina, ND and graduated from high school there. She continued her schooling at Mayville State where she received her teaching degree with a minor in music. Shirley taught for 4 years at Argyle, MN and also coached varsity girls basketball. She married Donald Anderson on Nov. 23, 1979 in Pembina. They made their home and raised two sons at Harwood. Shirley worked at Dakota School, which later became Northern Cass, in Hunter, ND from 1979 until retiring in 2010. While at Dakota she coached Jr. high and varsity girls’ basketball. At Northern Cass, she was a TNT (Teaching and Technology) mentor for other colleagues. Shirley embraced new technology with a persistence to succeed. She was also a science and math institute mentor in the area. 

Upon retiring, she worked at the Harwood State Bank, Zion Lutheran Church and did some substitute teaching.

Her family and friends were so important to her. They became her rock through her cancer journey since 2012. She enjoyed going to her kids and grandkids activities and was active in the community. Shirley also enjoyed summers spent at the lake. She had many social groups that provided enjoyment, support and friendships that will last forever.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Don, two sons, Brian and Matthew, and two grandchildren, Parker and Karley, all of Harwood; six siblings, Beverly (Tom) Burke of Pembina, Bob (Jill) of Athens, GA, Ron (Peggy) of Pembina, Herb (Eva) of Weslaco, TX, Harold of Pembina and Judy (Lynn) Schroeder of Cavalier, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Joel Burke and niece, Jeri Monette.

Prayer Service: Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 at 7 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, Harwood with visitation one hour prior.

Funeral: Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at 2 PM at Zion Lutheran Church, Harwood with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Roger Maris Cancer Center, Zion Lutheran Church or a charity or your choice.
