Ronald Gothberg, 80, of West Fargo, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Ron was born August 18, 1940, at Grand Forks, ND, the son of Charles and Olga (Anderson) Gothberg. He was raised in Grand Forks and attended Grand Forks Central High. At the age of 13, Ron began a career as a meat cutter. He entered the U.S. Army on April 12, 1965 and was discharged April 11, 1967. Ron and Carol Woodard were married in November of 1970. They moved to Fargo in 1971 and to West Fargo in 1973. Ron worked 40 years as a meat cutter at North Port Hornbacher’s in Fargo until retiring in 2013.
He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, watching his grandchildren’s sporting activities, playing pinnacle and whist and playing pool, winning many trophies. Ron liked people, spending time with family and friends. Over the years Ron was known by a nickname “Chicken”.
Grateful for having shared in his life, wife of 49 years: Carol; children: Derrick (Traci) of Fargo, Denise (James) Fyhrie of Fargo and Shaun (Melissa Hollatz) of Fargo; grandchildren: Lauren, Jack, Olivia, Abigail, Evan, Madeline, Alison and Paige; brothers: LeRoy (Carol) of Emerado, ND and Vernon (Lois) of Sheboygan Falls, WI.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Charles, Raymond and Robert.
Visitation: 4 to 5 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service, Friday, October 2, 2020, at the West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct 3, at the West Funeral Home.
Burial: Fargo National Cemetery, rural Harwood, ND.
