Roger Hayenga Obituary

Roger Lee Hayenga, age 80, West Fargo, ND, passed away April 20, 2021 in his home after an 8 month battle with cancer, under the care of his family and hospice.

Roger was born to Raymond and Mildred (Johnson) Hayenga on May 10, 1940 in Staples, MN and was raised in Lowry, MN.  Roger attended Glenwood High School and graduated in 1958. After high school he enlisted three years in the US Army.  Roger was stationed in Ft. Hood, TX for basic training; spent two years in Germany where he drove jeep for the company commander “as instructed” and played ball; completed his service at Ft. Carson, CO.  Once home, he attended St. Cloud State University.

Roger worked at Beneficial Finance in Bismarck prior to moving to Fargo, when he joined WW Wallwork as finance manager.  Roger later moved to FBS Leasing and FFFisher Leasing.  Roger worked at FFFisher Leasing for 31 years as the VP of Leasing, until the time of his cancer diagnosis.

Roger was a gifted athlete and enjoyed numerous activities, including basketball, football, bowling, fishing, hunting, and softball; but his true passion was golf (including a 1985 Roger Maris Celebrity Tournament win, Maple River Golf Club course-design of the back nine, and annual golf trips to AZ with friends).

Family time was spent following his grandkid’s sports and visiting the family’s private Island of Haylundga (Ontario, Canada).  Many weekends were spent at the lake which always included playing guitar and singing Willie.

Roger had many dear friends with whom he tailgated (GO BISON!) and loved making his famous chicken drummies.

For nearly 40 years Roger said “It’s always a beautiful day at Meadow Lake” and cherished every minute of being the Captain of his pontoon!

Roger will be missed and forever remembered by his children; Jill (Dennis) Steiner, Fargo, ND, Jeff (Christina) Hayenga, Austin, TX, Heather (Travis) Fraase, Littleton, CO, Mark Fraase, Denver, CO, Tim Hayenga, Wheat Ridge, CO, Dustin (Amanda) Hayenga, Fargo, ND. Grandchildren; Kaden Steiner, Kulm, ND, Colton Steiner, Fargo, ND, Austin Burrell, Fargo, ND, Caroline Schmidt, Littleton, CO, Evelyn Hayenga, Fargo, ND, Silas Hayenga, Denver, CO, and Thomas Hayenga, Wheat Ridge, CO. He is also survived by 5 siblings, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Darshayne Hayenga.

While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate Roger’s life and hold the many memories we have of him in our hearts.
