Rodney Allan Braaten, 73, of Fargo, North Dakota passed away on December 22, 2019 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo.
Rodney was born to Hans and Ina (Waale) Braaten in Oakland, California on May 13, 1946.
Rod grew up in San Leandro, California and graduated from Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo, California. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968. He served as a medic in Vietnam.
Rod excelled in baseball and basketball youth programs as well as coaching for Little League Baseball. He enjoyed golfing and was thrilled to be with his brothers on trips to Pebble Beach, Augusta and Pinehurst, and also the Kentucky Derby. He was enthusiastic sports fan for professional football, baseball, golf and UND hockey.
Rod married Judy Anderson on July 30, 1981 in East Grand Forks, MN. They have resided in Twin Cities, Grand Forks, Thief River Falls and Fargo.
Rod was employed with construction, warehouse distributing centers and Real Estate companies. Since 2003 Rod was on disability through Veterans Administration due to illnesses associated with Agent Orange used in Vietnam.
They traveled when possible and enjoyed visiting Gjøvik Norway, the birthplace of his Dad. His trip to Fenway Park and Baseball Hall of Fame were good memories. Rod’s favorite nearby travel destination was Minnesota North Shore which we visited many times.
Family members include his wife, Judy; Brothers Tim (Kathy) of California and Harlan (Kay) of Nevada; Brothers-in-law, Jerry (Roxan), Curt and Don (Becky) of Minnesota. Nephews, Ronnie, Randy and Kenny Braaten, Chad and Shawn Anderson; Nieces, Kim Braaten, Jennifer Laughman, Kelly Anderson, Tracy Abraham and Kim Taylor; Aunts, Stella Gast and Lorraine Knutson and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans & Ina Braaten; several aunts and uncles; in-laws Lawrence & Gay Anderson, sister-in-law, Sandra Selstad and niece, Stacy Gamet.
May his memory be blessed as we hold memories in our hearts.
Rod’s eternal home is with his Savior, Jesus.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm January 11, 2020, at Salem Evangelical Free Church, 1111 30th Ave S , Moorhead, MN.
Visitation will be held at the church 1111 30th Ave S Moorhead, one hour prior to his service.
