Phyllis Petersen

Phyllis Petersen, 92, Casselton, ND, died Saturday, June 15, 2019, at her home.                   

Phyllis Yvonne Reitan was born December 14, 1926 in Sabin, MN, the daughter of Henry and Laura (Poehls) Reitan.  As an infant, she moved with her family to Page, ND, where she lived until moving to Casselton in her junior year of high school. She attended Casselton High School. She married Ralph Petersen April 12, 1944 in Fargo, ND. They lived at Erie, ND until moving to Casselton in 1953 and built a new home. Phyllis and Ralph opened their Hardware Hank store in Casselton in 1976 and operated it until their son Rory took over in 1989. They spent 14 winters in Arizona. Ralph died in 1999.

Phyllis’ favorite hobby was golfing. Over the years, she shot 2 holes in one on number 7 at the Cottonwood Golf Club in Casselton. She also enjoyed baking, outdoor activities and sewing quilt tops at the church.

She is survived by five children; daughter, Sandra (Dar) Fosse, Prior Lake, MN; four sons, Richard (Nan), Winter Haven, FL, Roger (Jen), Missoula, MT, Ron, Shelly, MN, Rory, Casselton, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Karen (Dick) Faught, Amenia, ND and a sister-in-law:  June Reitan of Casselton.

She was preceded in death by her husband:  Ralph; daughter-in-law:  Sherry Petersen;  brother:  Clarence “Bud” Reitan; sisters: Joyce Moen and Gladys Borris.

In lieu of floral arrangements donations are preferred to the Martin’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, Hospice of the Red River Valley or the Casselton Ambulance.

Memorial Service:    11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019,  Martin’s Lutheran Church, Casselton

Visitation:  an hour prior to the service

Burial:  Casselton Cemetery.
