Pearl Backstrom, 91, of Fargo, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2020, at St. Catherine’s – North (Rosewood on Broadway) in Fargo.
Pearl Adeline Rensvold was born Sept. 25, 1930 in Fargo to Herman and Martha (Ohnstad) Rensvold. She grew up on the family farm East of Gardner, ND and attended country school. The family moved to Moorhead, MN in 1944. Pearl graduated from Moorhead High School and received a teaching degree at Moorhead State. She taught at the Prosper (ND) School where she met the love of her life, Daniel Backstrom. On October 20, 1951, Pearl married Daniel in Fargo. They moved to a farmstead in Grandin, ND in 1956, where they farmed and raised their three children. Pearl enjoyed substitute teaching and served on the Grandin School Board. Daniel retired from farming in 1987, and they moved to Fargo.
Pearl loved to play bridge, enjoyed visiting and volunteering as a beautician at Rosewood on Broadway for over 20 years. Daniel and Pearl were avid fans of NDSU basketball and football, attending many games over the years. They were members of NDSU Team Makers since 1976.
Pearl was strong in her faith and in her relationship with God. Daniel and Pearl were members of Grace Lutheran Church in Grandin and Immanuel Lutheran Church after moving to Fargo. She cherished time spent with family and friends especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pearl will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by three children: Mary (Rickie) Halvorson of Fargo, Mark (Becky) Backstrom of Grandin and Ann (Jeremy) Hooey of Dickinson; grandchildren: Justin, Ashley and Jenna Halvorson, Brady (Trista) Backstrom and Abby (Shane) Husar, Ashley (Jeff) Ratliff and Austin (Lexi) Ehret; great-grandchildren: Bristol & Briggs Backstrom, Trey and Kadence Husar; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; and a sister, Marilyn Anderson.
The family wishes to thank the many staff at Rosewood and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley are preferred.
Funeral: Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 11 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fargo with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Grandin Cemetery.
