Patricia "Patti" (Roach) Kratky

Patricia Louise Roach Kratky, "Patti",  83, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on August 3, 2023 in North Oaks, MN. Born May 25, 1940, in Fargo, ND. Preceded in death by husband, Frank Lanning Kratky, and parents, Russell and Louise (Schoenecker) Roach. She is survived by sister, Colleen (Roach) O’Malley, brother-in-law, Gary O’Malley, niece, Amy O’Malley, nephew, Jason O’Malley, family, and friends.

Patricia graduated in 1958 from Fargo Central High School. She obtained a BS in Foods and Nutrition from North Dakota State University in 1962 and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She received a Master's Degree in Public Health from the University of Minnesota in 1976.

She served in the United States Peace Corp from 1964-1967 in Pakistan and Iran, first teaching business and health skills in the community, and later English and nutrition to nurses. It was there that she met her husband, Frank, who also served in the Peace Corp. They married in 1966 at the Presbyterian Church in Tehran, Iran.

Patricia was a licensed nutritionist and a past president of the Minnesota Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She was awarded their highest honor, the Medallion award. She also served as the treasurer of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group. She worked as a Public Health Nutritionist for the Clay County WIC program for 17 years.

She enjoyed growing wildflowers, doing hand crafts like knitting and sewing, and researching her genealogy. She was active at First Presbyterian Church as a Deacon. She previously served as a Certified Lay Servant Minister at Faith United Methodist Church and as a treasurer of United Methodist Women. Patti also mentored new Americans, was past president and Secretary of League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley, volunteered at nursing homes, and was a past president of the Friends of the Moorhead Public Library and was a regular volunteer there.

A celebration of Patricia's life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church of Moorhead, MN at 11:00 AM, with visitation 1 hour before. Her interment will be at Wheatland Cemetery in Wheatland, ND,  later in the afternoon.
