Pamela Gjerdevig

Celebrating a life well lived…

   Pamela Jeane Gjerdevig (Simek), age 76, of West Fargo, ND, died on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Sheyenne Crossings. 

   Pam was born in Jamestown, ND, on May 18, 1947, to Bernard (BC) Simek and Rose Simek (Barta). She grew up in Fullerton, ND; this is where she met many of her dear friends, many of whom she stayed connected with throughout her life.

   Pam briefly worked for the phone company as an operator; this is where she met John Gjerdevig, and they were married on August 30, 1968, at the courthouse in Dickenson. She and John moved to Wahpeton, ND, in 1969 where they had their first son, Steve. In 1974, they moved to West Fargo and had their second son, Eric. At this point, Pamela took on the role of Chief Mom to the boys, a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family. She was fiercely loyal to her boys and welcomed her daughters-in-laws into the family with open arms.  

   Pam had a close-knit village of friends & family who brought her immense joy. In the summer, her favorite pastime was in the pool, either reading a magazine/book or throwing a pool party. She cherished hosting holiday gatherings with her extended family and never turned down a game of pinocle. Pam had a deep affection for both Medora, ND, and the Cayman Islands; she spent many years going to both places and rarely missed the annual mecca each year.

   Pam was immensely proud of her grandkids; she was a selfless and wonderful grandmother. They were fortunate to spend a lot of time with her as she was a caretaker for them in their early years. She enjoyed having handstand contests, taking them on adventures in Medora and Cayman, hosting a “kid” New Years Eve party, lazy days by the pool and reading/playing games with them.

   Pam’s loving family includes her husband, John, West Fargo, ND; sons, Steve (special friend, Angela Quam), Wahpeton; Eric (Sara), West Fargo; granddaughter, Jordyn (Isaac) Lillehaug, West Fargo; grandsons, Alec (special friend, Jade Thom), Breckenridge MN; Logan, Wahpeton and Jacob, West Fargo; great granddaughter Emersyn, her brother Dean (Shirlin) Simek, and brother in law, Clyde Ed Young; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kit Young; daughter in law Michelle Gjerdevig (Kihn).

   Memorial Service: Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
