Orel Hursman, 81, Casselton, ND died unexpectedly but peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Orel Jean Olson was born on Dec. 17, 1938 in Pelican Rapids, MN to Alvin and Eleanor (Johnson) Olson. She grew up in Vergas, MN in a log cabin in the country. She graduated from Frazee High School and then attended Wahpeton School of Science where she graduated with an LPN degree. While at Wahpeton, she went on a blind date with an electrical engineering student, Fred Hursman. After a whirlwind romance, they were engaged seven weeks later. They married on April 3, 1958 and had a loving, happy marriage for 62 years.
During their time together they lived in New York, Minneapolis and Coon Rapids, MN, Clearwater, FL and White Bear Lake, MN. They retired in 1992 to Vergas and lived in a log home Fred built next to the log cabin Orel grew up in. They moved to Casselton in 2015 and to Bethany Towers in Fargo in 2020.
Orel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her absolute favorite thing in the world was to have the whole family together in one place. She also loved to be on the go. Her favorites were camping with the family, casino trips with her cousins, girls’ trips with her daughters and shopping. She loved to have fun and a good giggle. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, cards, gardening, computer games and a good nap.
Orel worked as a LPN on and off. She took time off to raise her children and was an amazing caregiver to Fred during the last few years.
Orel is survived by her husband, Fred; children, Cindi (Mitch) Godbout of Casselton, Arlen (Sue) Hursman of Andover, MN, Tammy Hursman of Casselton and Willis (Lisa) Hursman of Fargo; grandchildren, Brandon (Crisha) Godbout of Casselton and Cory Hursman of Andover; and great grandchild, Payton Godbout.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Dougie.
