Mary Ann Bartell

Mary Ann Bartell of Lisbon, ND died February 24, 2020 at age 88.

Mary Ann (Wirch) Bartell was born in Spring Valley Township, Dickey County on September 3, 1931, the oldest of four siblings born to Theodore and Janet (Keith) Wirch.

She attended Hillsdale #3 rural school and graduated from Kulm High School, May 24, 1949.

She was married to Gerhardt Bartell August 13, 1950.  They built Greenleaf Farm south of Merricourt, North Dakota where they raised their family of three children:

1953-Davin (LaVonne) Columbia Heights Minnesota,; 1954-Darrel (LaNeil) Sioux Falls, South Dakota,  and 1960-Elizabeth (Terry) Keith, Kingston, Washington.  

Gerhardt and Mary Ann enjoyed planting trees, gardening, farming, and raising livestock.

Mary Ann received her teaching degree at UND-Ellendale College and taught elementary school in Ellendale.

They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1976 where they lived in Alpine Meadows for seven years. In 1984, they built a home in Lisbon, North Dakota. Gerhardt planted trees and they both enjoyed having a vegetable and flower garden.  They attended First Baptist Church of Lisbon, North Dakota.

Mary Ann loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and praised him and worshipped him continually.   Her strong faith was an inspiration to many because of her love of Jesus, she loved her friends and family dearly. 

An accomplished musician, Mary Ann taught music in Monango Public Schools for several years in the 1970’s, as well as a pianist and organist at her church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerhardt who died November 27, 2009 at age 83.

She leaves her two sons, their wives, her daughter and husband; six grandsons, Joel (Sarah), Adam (Molly), Sheppard, Lucas, Eli (Oriana), and Liam(Laura), five great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and one great-great grandson.

A celebration of life memorial service is planned on March 28, 2020 at 11AM at First Baptist Church in Lisbon, ND.  In lieu of flowers, please remember Lisbon Area Health Services, and North Dakota Veterans’ Home.
