Margaret Haugen Obituary

Margaret Haugen, age 92, passed away on Monday, September 23rd, 2019 at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo her home for the past eight years.

Iola Margaret Zimmer was born on April 8th, 1927 in Munich, ND to Peter and Hilda Zimmer.  She graduated from Munich High School in 1945.  While growing up, she enjoyed the company and shenanigans of 13 brothers and sisters.  She attended The State School of Science in Wahpeton and earned a degree in bookkeeping.  In 1953, she married the love of her life, Milo Haugen.  They started their life together on a small farm near Argusville.  They moved to Moorhead in 1954 and owned and operated Lincoln Grocery; in 1959, they moved to Harwood and opened Milo’s Superette. Margaret eventually worked for Fargo Farm Equipment and then Union Storage, retiring in 1995.  She and Milo raised four children, Mark, Marlene, Mina and Marv.  She was an active member of St. Williams Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Harwood Homemakers.

Margaret loved spending weekends at the lake:   Crystal, Star and Middle Cormorant were all favorite spots for family fun throughout the years.  Margaret was always ready for a game of Rummy, Phase 10, a glass of whiskey water and a fried shrimp dinner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milo, daughter Mina, son-in-law John Breker, her parents, brothers and sisters-in-law: Roman (Pauline) Zimmer, Ted (LaVerne) Zimmer, Michael Hoffmann, Aloysius (Regina) Hoffmann, Fr. Joseph Zimmer, sisters and brothers-in-law: Clara (Norbert) Michels, Pauline Argenziano, Marcella (Al) Artz, Rosemary (Peter) Steffan, and Gerald Becker.

Her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by her children, Mark (Cinda), Marlene Wilson (Monty), Marv (Barb), her grandchildren, Josh (Jackie), James (Samantha), Jodi, Rachel (Rick), Jenna (Danny), Laura (Tony), Jake (Sarah), Peter (Lindsay), Bryana (Darren), Allison (Mark), Trisha (Dan), Brynn (Brian), Justin and Katie; sisters Mary Frances Becker, Sister Philip Zimmer, Agnes (Joe) Hanigan, brother Eugene (Sharon) Zimmer, and sister-in-law Madelyn Hoffmann, along with many nieces and nephews.   Her influence will also be missed by 17 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, along with sister-in-law and brother-in-law Esther and Don Tang and their family.

Blessed be her memory.
