Lorraine Martin, 71, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, in her home.
Lorraine Ruth Harris was born on March 10, 1951, in Moorhead, MN, to Harold and Lorna (Nugent) Harris. She grew up in Leonard, ND, where she graduated from high school.
Lorraine earned her nursing degree from NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND. While interning in Hayward, WI, she met Chester Martin. Smitten by his charm and smile, they married on December 29, 1972. Lorraine loved her career as a nurse and was proud of the 35 years she spent working at Sunnyside Care Center near Lake Park, MN and Essentia Health in Fargo.
In 1978, the Martins moved to Hawley, MN, where they made their home for over 20 years. Lorraine was proud of her family and loved taking care of them. You would always see her in the stands at her kids’ games/events, she was their biggest supporter. Lorraine encouraged her family to be their best, be true to themselves and, most importantly, to be happy. Most of her kids’ friends called her “Mom”, and she loved them as if they were her own. Lorraine would offer up blunt, but smart advice, that was taken into consideration far more often than that of other adults. If Lorraine was a part of your life, you knew you always had someone in your corner.
Lorraine was also very proud of her grandchildren. She would show off pictures of her grandbabies, daring anyone to tell her they’ve seen a more beautiful baby. She was fond of spending time with all of her grandchildren, and they loved her fiercely in return.
After Chester passed away, Lorraine moved to Fargo to be closer to her kids. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, camping, canning, and being with family. Lorraine was possibly the world’s biggest Beatles fan. She enjoyed decorating her home with Beatles memorabilia.
Lorraine had such a caring, witty way about her; she was able to relate to anyone. She was charismatic and had the best, often times, sarcastic sense of humor. Lorraine was loved by many and we all feel grateful to have been a part of her life.
And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me, shine on ‘til tomorrow, let it be. I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Lorraine is survived by her children, Melanie (Adam) Mueller, Casselton, ND, Courtney (Shane) Swanson, Georgetown, MN, Anthony Martin, Moorhead, MN, and Jess Martin, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Alyson, Alexis, Brock, Bryce, Skylar, Leah, Kyra, Hayden, and Caleb; siblings, Kay Heuer, John (Julie) Harris, and Steve Harris; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Lorna Harris; and husband Chester.
