Lois M. (AuBuchon) Sinner

Lois Mary Sinner, 90, of Casselton, ND, and Riverview Place in Fargo, ND, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021, surrounded by loving family at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.

Lois was born in Elmhurst, IL, on June 1, 1930. She attended Immaculate Conception grade school and high school, and graduated from Webster College in Saint Louis, MO, with a bachelors degree in sociology.  Lois married Thomas J. Sinner on June 13, 1953, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elmhurst, IL. After a honeymoon in Montreal, Tom and Lois moved to Casselton in 1953 and moved to the family farm on Section 21 in Harmony Township in 1954.

Lois was an active member of St. Leo’s Parish in Casselton serving as Eucharistic minister, religious education teacher, singing in church choir, serving on the social concerns committee, and scripture study group.  Lois took special joy in welcoming new members and families to the St. Leo’s community, especially the babies. 

Lois was a member of the Casselton Women’s Club, and volunteered with the public schools.  

Lois, along with Tom, made human services a focal point of their public service.  Lois served on boards and committees for organizations including Friendship Inc., North Dakota ARC, Southeast Human Services, and with the Presentation Sisters during the organizational transition of their  convent property to a spiritually based retirement community at Riverview Place in Fargo.  Lois was also a Perpetual Associate with the Presentation Sisters in Fargo.

Lois and Tom shared a great and bountiful love in a marriage of 60 years.  Lois was a great friend and a gracious hostess.  She and Tom belonged to their Bridge Club for 35 years, and hosted New Year’s Eve dinner parties on Tom’s birthday in their home for many years.  She and Tom enjoyed travel across the US and Europe, and spent several winters in the Navarre Beach area in Florida.

Lois maintained her friendships with her school mates from elementary, high school and college, attending gatherings every 5 years up to her 65th high school reunion. 

Lois radiated love and good humor wherever she went. She was always stylish and with a fresh faced bright smile and a kind word for all she met.  She took sincere interest in the people in her community and in her life, and had a knack for never forgetting names.  She taught that the key to entertaining was to make sure that every guest felt comfortable and welcome.

Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Sinner, her parents Laurence and Grace (Foley) AuBuchon, her brothers Larry AuBuchon, Tom AuBuchon and Eugene AuBuchon, and her infant daughters Mary Grace, Ellen Mary, and Maureen Mary. 

Lois is survived by her children, Tom (Jan) Sinner, Jr., of Casselton, ND; Terry Sinner of Sauk Rapids, MN; Patricia (Dale) Neuschwander of St. Joseph, MN; Nick(Christine) Sinner of Fargo, ND; Christopher Sinner of Fargo, ND; Jody (Lester) Hensley of Westborough, MA; and Sharon (Mark) Hemann of Chanhassen, MN; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Friendship Inc., Fargo; the Sisters of the Presentation,  Fargo; Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo; Hospice of the Red River Valley. 

Public Visitation and a Vigil Prayer Service for Lois will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021. 5-7pm Visitation, 7pm Memorial Prayer Service, at St. Leo’s Church in Casselton.  

The family asks that guests in attendance be vaccinated for Covid19 and/or wear masks and socially distance.  

A private funeral Mass will be held with burial at St. Leo’s Cemetery in Casselton.
