Laura M. Hansen, 87, of West Fargo, formerly of Esmond, ND, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at a care center in West Fargo.
Laura Mae Stevens was born December 11, 1933, in Maddock, ND, the daughter of Glen and Gertrude (Griffith) Stevens. She was raised in Sanish, ND and educated in New Town, ND. At a young age, Laura moved to Washington State and was a caretaker for a niece. She returned to North Dakota, living with her father and other relatives. Laura and Walter (Bud) Hansen were married October 12th, 1950, in Esmond. The couple lived and farmed in Isabel Township, Benson County near Esmond, ND until 1971. They then operated Hansen and Wife Trucking until their retirement in 1995. Laura was employed for a time in Devils Lake at a downtown fitness center and REM. Bud passed away November 2, 2011. She remained on the farm and did recuperate at the Maddock Memorial Home following an accident. Laura spent many winters in Florida with her daughter Sheila and son-in-law Bill, returning to North Dakota for the summer. Laura moved to Fargo several years ago and lived for a time with her daughter and son-in-law. She then resided in Fargo with her daughter for many months and at a nursing home for a short stay until entering Adult Foster Care in West Fargo.
Laura enjoyed riding her Harley with Bud, reading and spending time with family. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond.
Surviving are her children: Frederick (Jinky) Hansen of Mountain Home, CA, James Hansen of Esmond, ND, Susan (Robert) Ruud of Harwood, ND and Marie (Alex) Lawson of Pawleys Island, SC; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a son-in-law: William Hanna in Florida.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Walter (Bud); daughter: Sheila Hanna; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Graveside Service for family and friends: Vasa Lutheran Cemetery, rural Esmond, ND later this year.
