As a boy, he excelled in many sports. He was fondly remembered as “swivel hips Schur” on the football team. He was captain of the Arthur Knights basketball team. He attended Dakota Business College.
He met Karen Lee Hull at Johnson’s barn dance and they were married April 24, 1959. They made their home in Fargo and raised three daughters. They enjoyed summers on Turtle Lake and later Maud Lake. He loved everything about golf, playing and watching. He was a member of the Red River Valley Sr. Men’s Golf Association which he enjoyed immensely. Most rounds of golf were followed by cards, cribbage, and fun with friends. He was known to sneak off and find a blackjack table when time permitted. He enjoyed teaching his daughters and several of his grandchildren the game of blackjack.
He was such an amazing father and grandfather. He was truly the nicest man you ever met. He was dependable, responsible, and trustworthy. To the point that his three daughters referred to him as a “Saint.” He will be greatly missed by many.
