Katharine Syvertson

   Katharine “Kay” Francis (Misialek) Syvertson, 81, Fargo, ND, died Monday, October 7, 2019 at home surrounded by family.

   Katharine Francis Misialek was born July 8, 1938 in Crystal, ND to Edward and Margaret “Genevieve” (O’Sullivan) Misialek.  Growing up, Kay spent a lot of time in her mother’s cafe in Grafton.  She attended school in Grafton, and later achieved a business degree from Aaker’s Business college. 

   On January 7, 1961, Kay married the love of her life, Selmer “Dave” Syvertson, and the journey began.  The strength of their love was evident to all who knew them, and they would remain together 58 years, raising five children, and traveling the world.  Kay was proud of her role as an Air Force wife, a very difficult and rewarding career.  They would live in New York, Michigan, Scotland, England, Greece, Texas, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and North Dakota. 

   Kay was always willing and able to help.  She spent years helping elderly and handicapped patients, while working in nursing facilities.  She was passionate about helping with her church, homeless shelters, and especially the YMCA. 

   Her smile, warm hugs and kisses will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She leaves behind three sons, Michael (Gena), West Fargo, ND, Rev. Robert, Fargo, ND, Matthew (Sharon), Wahpeton, ND; sister, Margaret (Harald) Langowski, Hoyt Lake, 10 grandchildren, David (Jenny), Melony (Eric) Weathermon, John (Tanya), Matthew, JoAnn (Prad) Rana, Anne (Josh), Violetta, Matthew, Jay, Carli, and 11 great grandchildren. 

   She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Genevieve; son, Charles (Becky); sisters, Mary Margaret, Mary Ellen (Harald) Kozojed, and Pat (Clint) Switzer, and brother, James.

Visitation: Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM all at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Funeral Mass: Friday, October 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Friday, October 18, 2019 at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
