Joyce (Gunderson) Monson

Joyce D. Monson, 89, Harwood, ND died on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019 at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND.

Joyce D. Gunderson was born Sept. 13, 1929 on the family farm between Enderlin and Lisbon, ND. She was the second oldest of seven siblings. She attended Moore Country School and graduated from high school in Lisbon. Joyce married Myron Monson on October 2, 1953 in Enderlin, ND. They operated the family centennial farm at Harwood.  They retired from farming in 1986, but remained involved through the years. Myron passed away in 2009. Joyce later moved into Fargo.

Joyce was first and foremost a farm wife and mother – and she loved it! Joyce loved time with her grandchildren and was instrumental in their upbringing. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing and singing in the Maple Sheyenne Church Choir.  Joyce looked forward to the Gunderson family reunion every June. The “Fearsome Foursome” (Lileks, Tehvens, Rusts and Monsons) were especially a part of her greatest enjoyments.

Joyce is survived by a son, Keith (Jann) of Harwood, ND; daughter, Janet (Mark) France of Fargo, ND; daughter-in-law, Nancy Monson of Prior Lake, MN; seven grandchildren, Kimberly (Bob), Nick (Breanna), Katie, Staci, Olivia, Hannah and Molly; four great grandchildren, Justine and Bobby, Miles and Gretta; siblings, Allen of Billings, MT, Charles (Ruth) of Baraboo, WI, Dale (Norma) of St. Anthony, MN, Richard (Barbara) of Osceola, IA, Karen (George) Ormiston of Hettinger, ND and Diane (Barry) Gillund of Enderlin, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myron; son, Bruce; and grandson, Eric.

Visitation: Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Funeral: Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 11 AM at the Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church, rural Harwood, ND.

Burial: Maple Sheyenne Cemetery.
