Jeanne Olson, 95, of Hunter, N.D., died on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo, N.D.
Jeanne Barbara Holtse was born on November 11, 1927, on a farm near Hunter, N.D. to Hans “Peter” and Martha (Madsen) Holtse. She grew up and attended school in Hunter, graduating from Hunter High School. She then attended Valley City State University and obtained a teaching degree. After working for Northwest Bell in Chicago, she returned to Cass County and taught at Gardner, N.D., and other rural schools.
On March 4, 1948, she married Clyde Olson in Moorhead, MN. The made their home in the Hunter area and farmed there until 1979. Jeanne also worked as a teacher’s aide in Hunter and Arthur schools.
Jeanne loved gardening, yard work, flowers, plants, spending time at the lake with family, traveling, and baking.
She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hunter, belonged to a garden club, and was a charter member of the Hunter Homemakers Club.
She is survived by four children, Karen (Ken) Wilhelm, Vancouver, WA., Rebecca (Keith) Brandt, Enderlin, N.D., Laurie (Mike) Campbell, Castle Rock, CO, and Gary Olson, Hunter, N.D.; 10 grandchildren, Sara (Kaz Otomo) Wilhelm, Michael (Azadeh) Wilhelm, David Wilhelm, William (Amanda) Brandt, Ted Brandt, Andrew Campbell, Abbey Campbell, Kristina (Kasey) Kyllo, Ben (Ashley) Olson, and Brittany (Beau) Sorenson; 12 great-grandchildren, Haruki and Fumiki Otomo, Hudson and Charlotte Brandt, Addison and Madelyn Kyllo; Jordy and Ledger Olson, Kade and Damon Sorenson, Madeline and Connor Wilhelm; and one sister, Lois “Fritz” Hughes, New Harmony, UT.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; sister, Ruth “Shorty” Freeman, and brother, Jim (Shirley) Holtse; and brother-in-law, David Hughes.
Visitation: Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., in West Funeral Home, Casselton, N.D.
Funeral: Friday, December 2, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior in West Funeral Home, Casselton.
Burial: Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, N.D.
