Jan Jundt Obituary

Jan Jundt, 69, of Fargo, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in her home. She gave everything she had to everyone.

Janet Louise “Jan” Mount (or “peanut”, a nickname from her dad), was born October 9, 1954, to Ray and Corajean (Shea) Mount.

She was raised in Bismarck, ND where she attended St. Anne’s Catholic School until 8th grade. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1972.

One of her favorite stories to tell was traveling the state with her dad and getting left at a convenience store where she got all you can eat hotdogs.

On a warm August day in 1970, she met the love of her life, Dave Jundt at the A&W. The two realized very quickly how much they loved each other and got married Jan. 18, 1974. They spent their honeymoon in the big town of Fargo at the Holiday Inn where ironically many relatives were also staying!

Jan worked at Catholic Family Services, St. Alexius Medical Center, and was a wonderful daycare provider while raising her 3 daughters, Tressa (Lura), Kelli (Hammerseng), and Amy (Dahlquist). She loved to work on projects around the house, especially when Dave was at Guard drill and always had coffee and cookies for her mom Corajean after work or was ready for a visit with the families for whom she cared deeply.

As life goes, Jan was thrown a curveball. She was diagnosed with Lupus in Dec., 1989. After her recovery, she quickly started a support group in Bismarck, became a member and ambassador for the Lupus Foundation and helped 100s of others with this disease by sharing her story and allowing her care team to create a case study. This autoimmune disease NEVER got her down, she just adjusted.

Through the years, Jan made it through so many obstacles. She was always smiling and rarely complained.

Jan and Dave moved to Fargo in 2014 to be closer to Kelli and Amy in MN and Tressa in Fargo. Jan was at the birth of all 7 of her grandkids; Jillian McMahon, Emily Hammerseng, Megan McMahon, Ethan Hammerseng, Ridley Dahlquist, Lainie Dahlquist, and Jameson Hammerseng. This was the biggest honor to her.

Her grandchildren were her world. She went to every dive meet, play, volleyball, baseball, and soccer games that she could. Her newest love, Cassie (Boston Terrier) has brought more joy than she could have imagined. Jan and Dave loved to travel around, whether to Florida, live at the lake, or in their motor home. You couldn’t keep Jan home if there were things happening with her family.

Jan loved to be creative-from making jewelry to wedding flowers to redecorating and renovation. One of our family’s most prized possessions is their 15 hand-cross-stitched Christmas socks she made. Twice she had two in one year to get done and no matter what, she did it with love.

No person has loved another like Dave loved Jan. He has been her best friend for 54 years, her caregiver and the rock of their family. Jan and Dave just renewed their vows in the most amazing 50th anniversary renewal celebration.

No matter what Jan has been given, she has fought every day to be with her family and enjoy every day to the fullest. She finally gave up the fight and went to be with our Lord and Savior.

She is survived by her loving husband Dave; her 3 daughters, Tressa (Brent) Lura, Kelli (Marcus) Hammerseng, and Amy (Andy) Dahlquist; her 4 granddaughters and 3 grandsons; her sister Judy (Dave) Osterberg; nieces and nephews; special cousins; and friends.

She has reunited with her parents, Ray and Corajean Mount, her in-laws, Adam and Stella Jundt, in heaven, along with many special family members and friends.

The world has lost a courageous, fiercely loving soul who will never be forgotten.

Memorials are preferred to North Dakota Veterans Cemetery (Mandan, ND).
