James L. Gebeke, 90, of Arthur, N.D., died in his home in Mesa, AZ on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from complications with COVID.
James Leroy Gebeke was born August 5, 1930, on the farm in Arthur Township, N.D. to Roy and Jennie (Snelson) Gebeke. He attended Tonn rural school until 8th grade and graduated from high school in Arthur in 1948. He worked for Cook Signs in Fargo for a short time before coming home to farm with his dad, and taking over in 1976. After his retirement he sold the farm to his three boys in 1993, and lived winters in Arizona.
Jim was united in marriage to Marvel Buchholz on April 22, 1951, at Canaan Moravian Church near Davenport, N.D. He served on the St. John Lutheran Church Council, Arthur Township Board, Cass County Farm Bureau, Arthur Volunteer Fire Department, and the Republican Party for Cass County. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and playing pinochle with friends in AZ.
James is survived by his best friend, Marie Skraba; and three sons, Terry (Barb), Greg (Deb), and Jeff, all of Arthur, N.D.; two grandsons, Danny and Zach; six granddaughters, Alissa, Sarah, Jenna, Amber, Hannah, and Erfah. He is also survived by three of Marie’s sons, Rick (Rita), Pick City, N.D. and daughters Breanna and Allison, Mike (Annie), Cook, MN, and daughter Amber, and Brad (Renee), Cole Harbor, N.D. and sons Brock and Hayden; and Marie’s daughter, Karla (Dale), Cook, MN. Jim is also survived by his siblings, Marla, St. Paul, MN, Raymond, Fargo, N.D., Bill (Audrey), Port Orchard, WA; and Judy (Gordy), Helena, MT.
Marvel preceded him in death on January 4, 2000, as did his parents and siblings, Kenny, Larry, John, Donna, and Tim.
A private family burial will be held at Arthur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 126, Arthur, N.D. 58006.
