Hubert Blegen

Hubert Blegen, age 83, of West Fargo, ND  formerly Leeds, ND and Kindred, ND, died Thursday,  August 27, 2020, at Pioneer Care Center, Fergus Falls.

Hubert Angelo Blegen was born February 25, 1937, on the home farm at Leeds, ND, the first child born to Peter and Alice (Johnson) Blegen.  He graduated from Leeds High School in 1955.  He took the Agriculture short course at NDSU, Fargo.

Hubert married Joan Heidenreich on June 23, 1963 at West Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Kindred, ND.  Together they lived and farmed the Blegen farm near Leeds, raising Polled Herford cattle and small grains until 1966.  They moved to Joan’s home farm near Kindred, ND, and that was where they farmed and raised their 3 children, Heidi, John & Harley.   Hubert left farming in 1983, and then worked several years as an over-the-road trucker for various companies. 

He was a member of the Leeds School Board, Masonic Lodge, was Leeds Township Assessor, and  a member of Leeds Lutheran Church board.  At Kindred, he was president of West Prairie Lutheran Church and Family Fellowship at the church.   He was president of the Woods Elevator, Woods, ND, Hew Hope Lutheran Parish president at Leonard,  Township Supervisor, Community Club president in Leonard, Leonard Lions Club & board member, and also was manager of the Leonard softball team for several seasons.  He was an avid sports fan, following Bison Football and Twins Baseball, but he was an even bigger TRUMP fan!

Hubert is survived by his daughter Heidi (Randy) Denzel, Dalton, MN, and their children Ramie Denzel, Ry Denzel (Alex Kirking), and Rayne Denzel; his 2 sons John Blegen, Kindred, and Harley (Michelle) Blegen, Roundup, MT, and their children Hope Axvig, Hayden (Taylor Gunderson) Blegen, Chris Blegen, Cody Blegen, Hank Blegen; and one great-grandson, Houston Blegen; two sisters, Dontee (Dennis) Adams, Bismarck, ND, Camilla Yaremcio, Canada; sister-in-law Jan Blegen, Coon Rapids, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Joan on January 23, 2020, his parents, a brother Phillip, an infant sister Ann, and a nephew Phillip.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Golden Drive Homeless Kids, 4302 – 13th Ave S., Suite 4-350, Fargo, ND  58103

Service of Remembrance:   5 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2020, in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.

Interment:   West Prairie Cemetery, Kindred, ND
