Hildegard Barsch

Hildegard E. Barsch, 103, Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Bethany Retirement Living, Fargo.

Hildegard Emilie Ciesla was born on October 10, 1915 in Gelsenkirchen, Westfalia, Germany to Gottlieb and Selma (Loebe) Ciesla. She moved to Helmstedt, Germany where she met Paul Barsch. In 1935 they married. They had one daughter, Ellinor. Hildegard worked as a waitress at a hunting lodge. In 1960, Hildegard and Paul moved to Fargo, ND to be near their daughter. She worked for Schultz and Lindsey Construction which changed to Steiger Tractor until 1980 when she retired. Paul passed away in 1997. Hilegard was a very independent person, who lived on her own, until 2017 when she moved in with her daughter.

She enjoyed time with family, cooking German foods, and the many coffee parties with her German friends. In later years, she also enjoyed her weekly bus trips with friends to the casino in Hankinson.

Hildegard is survived by her daughter Ellinor (Bob) Magnuson, Fargo, ND; grandson Clinton Paul (Deanna) Magnuson, Fargo, ND; four great – grandchildren: Derek (fiancé, Alice Yu) Magnuson, of Raleigh, NC, Rachel (Joel) Dimock, of Eau Claire, WI, Jared (friend, Aurora Obembe) Magnuson and Kevin Magnuson, of Fargo, ND; and three great – great- grandchildren: Sawyer, Ben, and Ellinor Dimock.

Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.
