Gordy Blixt

R. Gordon Blixt, 75, Gardner, ND died on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Roy Gordon Blixt was born June 29, 1944 in Fargo, ND to Roy and Mae Lorraine (Veitch) Blixt. He graduated from high school in Argusville and attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp and served from 1964 to 1968. He was a radar control operator stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. He also had numerous state-side duty stations, the last and longest was at the Marine Corp Air Station in Yuma, AZ. On May 27, 1967, Gordy married Randi Svanes in Kintyre, ND. Following his military service, they returned to North Dakota. His family grew with the birth of twins and then a son and daughter; in 1976, he purchased the home farm near Gardner. As a 4th generation farmer, Gordy mostly raised wheat and soybeans and in the earlier years raised Angus cattle. He loved farming! Randi passed away in 1990. Gordy married Shelah Fuglestad Obenauer on Nov. 26, 1993 in Moorhead, MN.

Gordy was a very active lifelong member of Herby Lutheran Church and served on the Cemetery Board and Church Council. He was on the Cass Rural Water Board for 19 years, as well as the ND State Rural Water Association for six years and many other local community organizations. Gordy was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for many years. The Fargo Rotary Club awarded him “Farmer of the Year” in 2003. In more recent years, Gordy enjoyed traveling! He and Shelah enjoyed trips to Florida, New York, Arizona, Washington D.C. (many times), and Alaska, which was his favorite. He loved old Pontiac cars and cherished anything John Deere Green.  It is rather fitting that we are here on this day because Gordy’s favorite saying was “see ya Tuesday!”

Gordy is survived by his wife, Shelah; four children, Krista (Bill) Cvar of Hibbing, MN, Roland (Lori) Blixt of Harwood, ND, Russell Blixt of Fargo, and Wendy (Chris) Waalen of Davenport, ND; two grandchildren, Dannelle (Trevor) Doering and Royce Blixt; great granddaughter, Bray Doering; step children, Jay Obenauer of Minneapolis, MN, Clare (Todd) Weigand of Bloomington, MN and Justin (Amanda) Obenauer of Lakeville, MN; step grandchildren, Samuel, Zane and Chloe Weigand and Finnegan and George Obenauer; two siblings, Peggy (Robert) Alderson of Grand Forks, ND and Keith (Bette) of Gardner; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Randi; and parents, Roy and Mae Lorraine.  

Visitation:  Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Funeral: Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 1 PM at Herby Lutheran Church, rural Argusville, ND.

Interment: Herby Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can go to the Herby Lutheran Cemetery or the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, ND
