Gordon Satrom Obituary

Gordon Satrom, age 91 of Fargo, formerly of Page, ND, died Monday, July 29, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Gordon Lyle Satrom was born March 13, 1928 to Olaf and Mina (Olstad) Satrom. He was the 10th of 13 children. He grew up on the family farm outside of Colgate and attended school in Colgate. He talked about threshing and pitching bundles, running a bulldozer and other chores when growing up. As a kid he liked baseball, swinging from the rope swing in the hay barn and loved roller skating in Page and Hope. As a young adult, with the help of his parents, he was able to secure rental agreements and purchased a farm. He was a shrewd negotiator who liked the art of the deal. His brother was drafted but Gordy went in his place. He served in the Army for 2 years, stationed in Germany. A highlight and an honor of his life was to go on a WDAY Honor Flight with his son to Washington DC in 2017.

He married the love of his life, Nola Haakenson March 17, 1952 at Galesburg, ND. They lived in Page where he owned and operated the Busy Bee Ford Garage. He sold the business and purchased his brother Ole’s farm. He acquired more land to farm and started selling insurance also.    He would go on to be the top life insurance agent in the nation 2 years in a row.  He sold their insurance agency after 40 years in the business.  They moved to Fargo in 2015.

Gordon and Nola have 5 children: Nancy Catherine who was the light of her Daddy’s eye died just shy of her 2nd birthday; the 4 B’s - William “Bill”, Bruce, Brad and Bob made their family complete. Gordon taught his boys how to do anything and continued to help on the family farm until he was in his 80’s.

Those of you who know him well, knew that he could be harsh with his words, at times and opinionated, but he had a big heart and was very giving. Giving money was his way of saying he cared or loved you.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, his daughter Nancy, granddaughter, Jamie and daughter in-law Andrea Brekke Satrom.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Nola, sons Bill (Wendy) of Hope, ND,  Bruce (Shelly) of Alexandria, MN, Brad of Palm Springs, CA,  and Bob (Lori) of Ayr, ND, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, along with many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Special thanks to Hospice of the Red River Valley, the VA , Villa Maria staff & Deacon Jim, and Pastor Sarah for your compassion and kindness given to Gordon & us.
