Gladys Rust Obituary

Gladys Rust born on August 15, 1927 and on April 11, 2019 left our family to meet Jesus. Gladys was a bookkeeper and organizer and had her final letter written before Alzheimer’s took over so here it is in her words:  I was born to Severin and Ida Ohnstad and grew up on a farm by Argusville N.D. I loved riding my horse and helping dad farm. My friends said I was a good dancer then but you should see me dancing now. No longer dizzy, and those wobbly eyes aren’t even a memory now.

I graduated from Fargo Central High School. I loved playing softball and was on the famous F.M. Twinettes team and actually played in the Nationals.

As I look back at my 91 years, time was like a VAPOR IN THE WIND but two of my greatest decisions in life were one, accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and two, married Warren Rust in November of 1950.  We lived on a farm by Prosper ND. I was very involved with our church, Herby Lutheran over the years and in the community. I loved gardening, especially growing strawberries and flowers. I enjoyed painting pictures, being a 4-H leader, being on the Big Iron Ladies Committee, traveling, skiing in Big Sky Montana, decorating wedding cakes, and bookkeeping for the business we started on our farms, Rust Sales. They say I made hospitality look easy and loved to have friends and family around me. I didn’t want anyone to be alone on holidays.

I was blessed with four children, Peggy, Dale, Perry and Randy. There was never a quiet or boring time in our home. Our family motto was “Life is short so make memories” and “Don’t have a lazy mouth” talk to the people around you.

Warren and I moved to North Fargo in 1987 and made many new friends in our neighborhood. I loved spending time with my grandchildren and playing checkers with them after school.

Warren and I eventually moved to Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo. We loved it there and the staff was GREAT.  Warren died in 2009.

I don’t want to brag but my family says I have been an example to them, being content no matter where I am and choose to find the good around me. I leave behind a great family although some say we’re not always NORMAL but sometimes dressing up in goofy clothes made me smile when I  looked back at our pictures.

I eventually went to the long term section of  Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo. I loved it there and the STAFF is fabulous. I made my family promise to NEVER move me, they were my new friends.

I have moved on to my eternal home and when I recognized Warren he asked “What took you so long?”  Let’s dance again, (this is what my kids were telling me while I was taking my last few breaths). I am with my sister Irene Melander, niece Jane Melander, and my parents. I leave behind my sister Darlene (Calvin) Senechal; my children, Peggy (Harv Seidel), Dale (Jerri) Rust, Perry Rust and Randy (Janelle) Rust; my grandchildren, Kyle (Carla) Janecky, Allison (Matt) Wieser, Brandon (Allison) Rust, Austin Rust, Tory Rust, Georgia Rust, Raquel (Michael Mueller) Rust, Jared (Brielle) Rust and Shelby Rust. I was even blessed with GREAT grandchildren, Vanessa, Kennedy, Reagan and Nora.

My service will be held in Hope Lutheran North Church, Fargo. Instead of flowers and if you feel necessary please send memorials to Herby Lutheran Church, Hope Lutheran Church or Ethos Hospice. If you do send flowers, please consider an Easter Lily which would decorate the church throughout the Easter season.

When I wrote this many years ago I knew my family would be my side during this final goodbye. You were there in FULL Force, THANK YOU I loved hearing the stories you were sharing and all the laughter. For there is a time for everything. Ecclesiastes 3:4. There is a time to cry, and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance with joy.

Hope to see you all later……………..Love Gladys.
