Gary Harland Jacobson

Gary’s journey began on August 16, 1940 in McVille, North Dakota.  He was the son of Clarence and Clarine Jacobson. His journey ended on May 17, 2021. 

Gary spent his early years in Pekin, North Dakota.  His family later moved to Hillsboro, North Dakota.  Remaining in Hillsboro, Gary started his own family.  He married Bonneita Gisvold Jacobson and their union created three children – LouAnn, Lynette and Bruce.  He later married Karen Vernon Jacobson. 

Gary had an adventurous spirit.  Flying and driving were his passions.  He loved to fly airplanes across the North Dakota countryside.  Gary proudly drove for Melton Trucking earning safety awards while traveling the United States with his wife, Karen.  He also enjoyed his earlier work at Skelly Gas Station, Bertsch Trucking, FM Ready Mix, and Prosper Elevator. 

Gary was kind-hearted and made friends easily. He had a robust laugh, a twinkle of mischief in his eye, and enjoyed cooking for friends and family.  For many years, Gary suffered from Parkinson’s Disease prompting him to move to Bethany Homes in Fargo in his later years.  

Survivors include his daughter, LouAnn (Devin) Lusso of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota;  daughter, Lynette (Rollin) Eberhardt of Hillsboro; son,  Bruce (Kim) of Cummings; wife,  Karen of Mandan and her children Brandi, David and Joanne; sister, Doreen Halvorson of West Fargo; brother-in-law, Marvin Albert of West Fargo; sister-in-law Barbara Jacobson of Arizona; grandchildren Kayla Jacobson, Natassaja Eberhardt, Kollin Eberhardt, Morgan Jacobson and Alexa Jacobson; and many special nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clarine Jacobson; sister, Gaylene Albert; brother Dennis Jacobson;  and brother-in-law Lloyd Halvorson.  

Special gratitude is extended to Doreen Halvorson and Lisa Hoefs for their loving care and support of Gary.  The family also expresses special thanks to the caregivers of Bethany Homes and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their care of Gary. 

Funeral:  10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.

Final Resting Place:    Sheyenne Lutheran Cemetery,  Pekin, North Dakota
