Gary Bohn Obituary

Gary Lee Bohn (80) of Galchutt, North Dakota joined his heavenly Father on Monday, May 23rd, 2022. He passed at Sanford in Fargo surrounded by the love and song of his family.

Gary was born September 24th, 1941 in Breckenridge, MN to Clara (Gast) and Herbert Bohn. As a son of God, he was baptized on October 2nd, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tyler, ND and confirmed his faith on May 1st, 1955. Gary spent his early years of school in Tyler and graduated from Wahpeton High School on May 21st, 1959.

Gary met the love of his life, Sharyn Johnson, at a baseball game in Galchutt and after a whirlwind romance, they were married at Galchutt Lutheran Church on June 30th, 1967. Their married life started in Tyler, ND on Gary’s family farm. Gary began his career farming and working at the State School of Science. In November 1969 their beautiful family grew to three as they welcomed their first daughter Emmy into the world. In the midst of caring for his young child, Gary, the ever-hard worker, started a trucking company. Soon after, his family grew once again in May 1976 with the joyous addition of Nikki. With his family complete, Gary built a farmstead on a beautiful plot of land in rural Galchutt. Here, a devoted family-man, provider, and member of his community, he joined the school board and had the honor of handing both his children their high school diplomas, a point of immense pride for him. Gary also served as a trustee for the Galchutt Lutheran Church Council and as President of the Galchutt Betterment Club. After an admirable career working for Harvest States, Minn-Dak, and Cargill, he retired in 2010.

Gary was blessed with a life filled with innumerable passions. He enjoyed all things agriculture and spent much of his time on his tractors. He loved to sing 50s music and dance the Waltz with Sharyn. He cherished his time playing cards and dice with family and friends, lived for the excitement of auctions, and was a lifelong collector. He spent his moments building memories by traveling with family, taking his grandchildren to Rollag, Inspiration Peak, and summer parades, and supporting his children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews at all of their events. He had deep love for his family and friends and devoted the same care to his pets and his garden.

A kind soul and hard worker, he was a prankster, a storyteller, and a caretaker. As a “master of duct tape and wire” he would fix anything and drop everything to lend a helping hand. His presence was ever warm and his faith strong. He will be dearly missed, but shall live on in the hearts of all whose lives he graced.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife Sharyn, daughters Emmy (Troy) Vareberg and Nikki (Adam) Hagen, grandchildren Adam and Morgan Vareberg, sisters-in-law Betty Bohn, Nyla (Curt) Holm, Julie (Larry) Duttenhefer, Jacque Holtz, brother-in-law Doug (Mandi) Johnson, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Clara Bohn, brother Ronald Bohn, brother-in-law Duane Holtz, and nephew Chris Bohn.
