Gary Bertek

Gary Allen Bertek, age 65, of West Fargo, ND, died on Thursday, September 5, 2019 in West Fargo.

Gary was born May 5, 1954 at St. John’s Hospital, Fargo, ND, to Margie and George Bertek.  In 1964, Margie married Marvin Miller, and Gary gained a stepfather.  Gary graduated from West Fargo High School in 1972, and from North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND in 1974.   He married Karen Strum on June 30, 1984, in Red Lodge, MT.  They had two sons, Adam and Taylor, and made their home in West Fargo until their divorce in 2006.  Gary worked many years for Dacotah Paper Company in Fargo, retiring in 2016. 

Gary loved many things in life:  NDSU Bison football, tailgating, golfing, hunting, fishing, motorcycling, time at the lake, and most of all spending time with family and friends.  He took extreme pride in his two sons, Adam & Taylor, who were his greatest joy.  Gary will be remembered for many wonderful qualities.  He was generous, friendly, helpful and truly made a difference in the lives of those who knew him.  His infectious smile, ready wit, and ever-present sense of humor brightened many occasions. 

Gary is survived by his son, Taylor, Fargo; significant other Brenda Shoemaker, Fargo; half-brother Mike Bertek, Big Lake, MN; niece Wendy (Chris) Pellant, Naples, FL; nephew Shane (Lynette) Schock, Fargo; several great-nieces, a great-nephew, and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, his sister Sharon Schock, and by his son Adam.
