Erne Geist

Ernest G. Geist, Sr., age 64, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, December 26, 2019 at The Meadows on University, Fargo, ND.

Ernest Garst Geist, known as Erne, was born September 4, 1955 at Pettibone, ND, the son of Adam and Magdaline (Mittlieder) Geist.  He grew up at Pettibone until the family moved to Fargo when Erne was age 11.   He had attended schools at Pettibone and Fargo South High School.  

In August of 1975, Erne was united in marriage to Kay Johnson.  They lived in Fargo and Erne worked at Don’s Car Wash on Main, and Surplus Tractor Parts.   The family moved to Seattle, WA in 1990, and he worked as a maintenance tech at Holiday Inn.  They later returned to West Fargo, ND and Erne worked at Don’s Car Wash, Moorhead and Cheron Auto in Fargo.  He then was employed doing maintenance at Petro in Fargo, and lastly Luther Ford as a mechanic. Kay Geist died in 2017, and Erne moved to Moorhead a short time later.

Erne loved attending car races, especially at West Fargo Speedway where his kids said, “he had his own seat”.  Erne enjoyed making model cars, general tinkering, and doing mechanical work.  He was an avid Elvis fan and enjoyed Elvis music as well as memorabilia. Erne is remembered as a guy who loved the color purple, who was a good cook, and as a family man who especially enjoyed his grandchildren, always having each one’s favorite candy on hand when they would visit.  He also loved his “froggies” (dogs).

Erne is survived by four children:  Shanna (Troy) Knutson, Moorhead; Ernest Jr (Alana), West Fargo, Bradley (Susan), Minot, Adam, Moorhead; 7 grandchildren; his surviving siblings:  Delores, Raymond, Dorothy, Marvin, LaVonne, MaryAnn, Arlamae, Betty, Melvin, and Ada; his “in-laws", Carol Harrington, Darrell Johnson, Kathy, Kim, Karen, Kurt & Jared;  and numerous nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kay; his parents, two brothers Duane and Harold, two sisters Irene and Elaine, his father-in-law Roger Harrington, a niece Christie, and many other loved ones.

Memorial Service:   10 am Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with Visitation held 9 am - 10 am.
