Craig Canales Obituary

Craig Canales, 64, of Hunter, ND, passed away at home on Friday, October 15, 2021.

Craig was born October 17, 1956, in Portland, Maine, the only child of Carl and Odette (Alexander) Canales.  He grew up in Scarborough, Maine, and as a teenager, he enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Terry Carman in July 9,1977.

Craig served in the 82nd Airborne Infantry division, United States Army from October 1975 until November 1979. His military service was a cherished time in his life. During his time in the Army, he received Christ as his personal Lord & Savior in September of 1977. In July 1978, their daughter Shannon was born, and on Craig's 23rd birthday in 1979, their son Myron was born.   Craig graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri in 1986, and in July of that year, the Canales family moved to Fargo, ND, where Craig became the assistant pastor and later senior pastor of Bible Baptist Church.   At the time of his death, Pastor Craig had continuously served at the church for 35 years.  He also worked as the Advocate & Chaplain at The New Life Center, Fargo, for 21 years. Craig retired from New Life Center but worked 3 days a week at Marshall's in Fargo.

He enjoyed day trips to small towns throughout North Dakota where he & Terry would visit the small-town cafes, thrift stores, hardware stores and landmarks. They were often accompanied by a grandchild or their daughter.   Craig loved spending time with family and friends.

Craig is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Terry; daughter Shannon (Ken), and son Myron; 4 grandsons and two granddaughters, Taylor (Tiffany), Kendra, Steven, Courtenie, Arthur & Dyllon. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Shirley Carman; two brothers-in-law, Arthur Carman and Chuck (Dana) Carman; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Bradbury and Amy Carman and six nieces.  Craig left a big hole in our lives and will be missed every day.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl Canales; his mother Odette Rice and his stepfather Fran Rice; his father-in-law Paul Carman Sr; two brothers-in-law and a nephew.
