Cody Martin Obituary

Cody Ray Martin, 31, Bismarck, ND passed away in Jamestown on Sunday, June 13, 2021, as a result of a motocross accident.  He will be forever remembered for his competitive spirit, tender heart, and infectious smile.  He held his friendships dear.  He knew the importance of the journey, not just the destination.  He loved his road trips and travels for family, racing and fun.

Cody was born November 2, 1989, in Fargo, ND to Brent and DeAnna Martin. They resided in Fargo until September of 1996 when they moved to Casselton.  Cody graduated from Central Cass High School in 2009.  Following high school, he moved to Bismarck to attend Bismarck State College.  He loved Bismarck and made it his home.

As a young boy, Cody lived on his bike.  In the summer of 1997, he was introduced to BMX racing.  He quickly went from novice to expert in just one season.  He made so many great friends travelling from track to track and racked up a collection of trophies that quickly outgrew his room.  Along the way he also earned multiple state championships, to include the SD State Championship.  He always chuckled about how he “stole” their state title.  Cody naturally progressed to motocross and began racing at the Glyndon, MN track.  He loved the camaraderie, the competition, and the thrill of racing.

In addition to racing, Cody also enjoyed hunting pheasants and deer with friends, family, and Fletcher, his beloved German Shorthair Pointer.

After moving to Bismarck, Cody met Shane Farland.  Cody began working for Shane as an employee, but their relationship quickly turned into a lasting friendship.  It was Shane who taught and mentored Cody about the car detailing business.

In 2014 he met Chelsey Benson, the love of his life. They spent their time enjoying each other’s hobbies. Chelsey would attend his races and Cody would attend her barrel races. They cherished their time spent with each other.  Whether it was at the house, at the shop, or out at the track/rodeo, their dog OG was always by their side.  Cody and Chelsey also enjoyed attending church together on Sundays at Evangel Church. It was there, where his relationship with the Lord grew.

The same year he met Chelsey, he started his own detail business, CM Shine.  Cody’s meticulous nature, attention to detail, and work ethic helped him grow his business.  His services were in high demand, and he did everything from motorcycles to jet aircraft.  He even had his work featured at the Las Vegas SEMA show.  Cody took great pride in his work.  He was well known in the industry for perfection.

He is survived by his soulmate, Chelsey Benson, parents, Brent and DeAnna, brother Joss (Anna Brunner), sister Breena (Mike) Svetlic, niece Callie Svetlic, and grandparents Bob Dick, Carolyn and Herman Funk.

Cody was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Joan Martin.
