Carl Gorman Obituary

Carl J. Gorman, 64, of West Fargo, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo

Carl J. Gorman was born September 26, 1953 in Jamestown, ND to John and Clarice (Carlson) Gorman of Nortonville, ND. He grew up and attended school in Edgeley, ND. He continued his education at ND State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND specializing in diesel mechanics. He started working for Cummins Diesel in 1976 even before he completed his degree. Carl married Diane Witt on April 16, 1977 at Zoar Lutheran Church in LaMoure, ND. Carl and Diane have since lived in West Fargo. He continued to work for Cummins Diesel for 33 years before retiring and becoming a small business owner. For the past 11 years, Carl has been the “Trophy Guy” at Wayne Trophies in Fargo, ND and loved every minute of it!

Carl loved spending time with his family and enjoyed exploring the country with them. He always made sure to take at least one yearly trip with Diane. In 2012, he was promoted to Papa. Carl has five grandchildren who put a permanent smile on his face, and a glimmer in his eye. If you asked him about his grandchildren, you better have a good amount of time to listen to his great stories about each and every one of them.

Carl loved the sport of bowling almost as much as his grandchildren. He taught himself how to bowl then passed along his knowledge and passion for the sport to his wife and 3 kids. Carl spent 20 years coaching and sharing his love for the game with countless kids he considered his own. He had patience for every kid on the lane (except his own) and was quick with encouraging words. He loved to teach the game and created his own sense of family by making the sport such a huge part of his life. There was never a week you wouldn’t find him in at least one bowling center, bowling leagues, coaching kids, laughing, and adding new friends to his life-long bowling family.

Outside of bowling Carl enjoyed the outdoors—hunting, fishing and boating. He preferred to be at the lake playing cards, sitting at a bonfire, or driving the boat for a bunch of kids tubing. He was often heard saying “A rainy day at the lake is better than any day in town.”

Carl is survived by his wife, Diane Gorman, West Fargo, ND; three children, Shannon (V. Dean) Gilbert, Staples, MN, Nadine (Chris) Swee, Fargo, ND, Joseph (Carissa) Gorman, Champlin, MN; five grandchildren, Luella, Madelynn, and Connor Gorman, Champlin, MN, Carleigh Swee, Fargo, ND, and Elijah Gilbert, Staples, MN; his siblings, Katharine Gorman, Fargo, ND, Lucy (John) Olson, Lowry, MN, Margery (Bill) Sneyd, Globe, AZ, Genevive Jerke, Madison, MN, Lawrence “Gus” Gorman, Jamestown, ND, Leslie Gorman, Nortonville, ND, Fern (Larry) Schauer, Ashley, ND, Bernard Gorman, Nortonville, ND, Sylvia (Mark) Bosch, Kulm, ND and several nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Clarice Gorman, brother-in-law Al Jerke, sister-in-law Dynae Gorman, and nephew Matthew Bosch.
