Bob Jensen Obituary

Robert “Bob” Jensen, 73 of West Fargo, ND passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Sanford Health Broadway after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bob was born November 15, 1948, to Kenneth and Kathleen Jensen in Sioux Falls, SD, where he grew up and graduated from Washington High School. Bob then went to Vermillion, SD where he graduated from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Math. While at USD, Bob met his future wife, Micky Determan at a freshman orientation dance. In 1971, the two were united in marriage, and later were blessed with four children, Karl, Krissy, Sarah and Becky.

Bob and Micky lived in Sioux Falls for a short while and eventually moved to West Fargo, North Dakota. It was in 1978 that Bob began a thirty-seven year career with Butler Machinery Company in Fargo, ND. He started out in the Irrigation Division, then worked his way up to Credit Manager, Finance Manager and ultimately became the Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer, which was the position he held at the time of his retirement in 2015. He was often introduced to new staff or customers as the CFO aka “Chief Fishing Officer.” Bob enjoyed his work and loved the people he worked with, having developed several lifelong friendships that he truly valued. He had many close relationships with those not only at the company but with business partners and customers.

Bob was an avid fisherman, who never passed up an opportunity to take the SnoBear or his boat out on the lake. Bob’s favorite places to fish were in Canada, where he made sure to share the experience and his expertise with so many around him, especially his children and extended family. He was a longtime dedicated member of the FM Walleyes fishing club, having served on the board of directors for several years and told fish stories for a lot more.

Bob never passed up an opportunity to lead, coach and mentor others. He was known for his quick wit, humor and ability to connect with people always keeping in touch with those who crossed his path.

Bob is survived by his friend Nancy Jones, Fargo. His children and families – Karl (Lynn) Jensen of Fargo, Krissy (Derek) Pfeifer of Bismarck, Sarah Jensen of Woodbury, MN and Becky (Kyle) Fischer of Bartlett, IL. Grandchildren – Brady, Trent and Gigi Pfeifer, Bismarck and Jacob Fischer, Bartlett, IL. His brother Randy (Eileen) Jensen, Tool, TX, brother-in-law Tim Seely of Smithfield, VA and sister Kathy (Craig) Donner of Colorado Springs, CO. Mother-in-law Dorothy Determan of Milford, IA, brothers-in-law Dave (Kathy) Determan of Spirit Lake, IA and Mike (Kay) Determan of Spencer IA, and sister-in-law Patty Determan of Milford, IA.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Micky, his sisters Karen Jensen and Ilene Seely, mother Kathleen Jensen, father Kenneth Jensen, father-in-law Darial Determan and brother-in-law Marc Guthrie.

Visitation will be on Sunday August 21st 5:00pm to 6:00pm at West Funeral Home in West Fargo, ND. A Celebration of Bob’s Life will follow at 6:00pm. Bob had requested that we put the “F-U-N” in his funeral, so it is our request that you please join us, in casual dress, and come prepared to share all your best “Bob stories”, and fish tales - Lord knows there are many!
