Al Zimmerman Obituary

Alvin Zimmerman “Al” was born to Patricia Saltzberry and Alvin Zimmerman on September 3, 1975 in White Pine, Michigan. He lived in Bruce Crossing, Michigan until he was 5 years old when he moved with his father, Alvin (Sandy) Zimmerman, to Williston, ND. There he began his school years and welcomed a brother and sister to his family, Jeremy and Heather.  Al moved with his parents, Al and Sandy, and siblings to West Fargo, ND in 1985. The family briefly moved to Valley City, ND in 1986 for a year, but then moved back to West Fargo, and Al remained there for the remainder of his life. Al graduated from West Fargo High School in 1994.

During high school, Al joined the North Dakota Army National Guard. He served a total of 15 years in both the National Guard and Active Army. During his time as a soldier, Al served a combat tour in Iraq. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 2008.

Al’s oldest daughter, Daeja Zimmerman, was born in 2003. Then in 2006, Al married Nikki Rentz, and from this union, his daughter Jaeda Zimmerman was born in 2007.

Throughout his life, Al enjoyed “tinkering.” He always loved fixing things, anything from bicycles to cars. He had a great artistic ability, and he enjoyed drawing. He also had a passion for cars, and throughout the years, he bought and sold several of them. He loved spending time in his garage, especially when he was grilling something. He was quite the chef, and he enjoyed making amazing food for family and friends.

Al had a contagious smile and left this Earth too soon at the young age of 44. He was loved by many and will forever be missed.

Al was preceded in death by his mother Sandy Zimmerman, biological mother Patricia Saltzberry, grandmother Bethel Zimmerman, grandfather Gerald Larson, great grandmother Violet Samuelson, and cousins Brandon Bunnell and Michelle Samuelson.

He is survived by his daughters Daeja and Jaeda Zimmerman, father Al Zimmerman, two brothers Jeremy (Stephanie) Zimmerman and Dustin McKenzie, sister Heather (Grant) Carlson, special friend Denise Engebretson and her children Thaddeus and Natasha, grandparents Carl Zimmerman and Gloriann Larson, great grandfather Onie Samuelson, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
