Mildred J. Keating, age 90, of West Fargo, ND, died Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo.
Mildred Jeanette “Millie” Walburg was born November 18, 1928, on a farm near Embden, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Viola (Bielke) Walburg. Her family moved to Casselton, ND where they lived for two years prior to moving to West Fargo. Millie attended West Fargo public schools and was proud to be a WFHS Packer. Little did she know there would be another 4 generations of her family graduating from West Fargo schools. Millie was a Charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church, which her father helped construct.
In August of 1950, Mildred and William Keating were married. They lived in West Fargo until 1994 when Bill retired and they moved to Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids, MN, spending winters in Florida until his death June 28, 2000.
Millie belonged to a lady’s group called “The Club” for many years. She was in a bowling league and whist club in her younger years. The thing she liked most was the lake. She would fill the car with her kids and groceries, and off they went to Cormorant Lake for the summer. As much as she loved the lake and water, she couldn’t swim! She would put on her orange life jacket and jump in, and then spend most of the day just floating in the water. Millie and Bill spent winters in Florida where they met many new friends and where she could be close to the water. She also liked to go to Canada where she would fish and had caught some pretty big fish which included a 33” walleye. Millie’s quick wit was always something you looked for. She was so funny and made everyone laugh.
Millie had worked at L.E. Berger Middle School, and later Eastwood Elementary as a Para from 1974 until her retirement in 1993. She loved her kids and her co-workers.
She leaves four children, Candice Henke, Bill (Ginny), Tim (Diane) and Mike; five grandchildren: Kim, Andy, Adam, Travis & Taylor; six great-grandchildren: Gabe, Hannah, Elin, Halen, McKenna & Georgia; and two sisters Maxine Potter and Andrea (Larry) Lepird.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and grandson Jason Henke.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Sheyenne Crossings, and Hospice of the Red River Valley for taking wonderful care of Millie. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the RRV.
