Leland Tangelin, 69, West Fargo, ND formerly of Devils Lake, ND died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Fargo VA Hospital surrounded by his loving family in the presence of the Lord.
Leland Arthur Tangelin was born on March 17, 1949 at Rugby, ND to Arthur and Mildred (Bingaman) Tangelin. He moved from Brinsmade to Devils Lake with his family as a young child. He graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1967 then briefly attended Lake Region College. He enlisted in the US Army in 1969 until 1971, having served in the Vietnam War. After returning to Devils Lake he worked for the Department of Transportation as a heavy equipment operator and snow plow driver for 31 years until retiring in 2002. He lived in Elko, Nevada for a short time and moved back to Devils Lake where he worked at the Lake Region Public Library. He moved to West Fargo in 2015.
Leland enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in the outdoors. He was an avid gun and car enthusiast, belonging to the Valley Vintage Car Club in Fargo. His lifelong passion was weightlifting and power lifting. He competed throughout his life at a national level even into his 60’s. He was also a member of the Devils Lake VFW.
Leland is survived by his daughter, Kristi (Brent) Zimbelman, of Fargo, ND and granddaughter Ruby Zimbelman and by the many friends whom he considered brothers.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1- 2 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Funeral Service: Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 2 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Burial: Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Brinsmade Lutheran Cemetery, Brinsmade, ND at 2 PM along with military rites.
