Larry Allan Nelson, 51, of West Fargo, ND, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Larry was born December 5, 1966, in Moorhead, MN the son of Nordal & Shirley Nelson and grew up in Hendrum, MN.  Throughout his school years, Larry played in sports and band and was a proud member of the 9 man championship football team at NCW.  He graduated from Norman County West High School in 1985.  Larry then attended school in Thief River Falls, MN for radio and TV broadcasting.  He worked in Grafton and Lisbon radio stations, then for a time at Fargo Hose prior to returning to broadcasting at WDAY in Fargo. Larry was currently employed at 103.9  “The Truck” in Casselton.  While working in Lisbon, Larry met Heather Shank.  They were married September 18, 1999. 

Larry was very much a people person who loved racing/NASCAR of any kind. Also, Larry announced many races in the four state area.  He will be remembered for his radio show: "Hot Laps with Larry".  Larry loved traveling, going to the zoo with his wife, spending time with family and friends. He had a big heart and was loved by many.   Family and friends will miss him.

Surviving is his wife:  Heather;  brothers:  Gary (Sharlene) Nelson of West Fargo,  Barry (Jene) Nelson of Milaca, MN and Jerry Nelson of Moorhead; sisters:  Marilyn (Steve) Eickhoff of Moorhead and Diane Nelson of Hendrum, MN;  nieces:  Jessica, Jennifer, Jodi, Christy and Amanda; nephews:  Cody, Alex and Wyatt; father and mother-in-law:  Leon and Verda Shank of Milnor, ND and a brother-in-law:  Tim (Brenda) Shank of Jamestown, ND. 

He was preceded in death by his parents:  Nordal and Shirley Nelson;  sister-in-law:  Tammi Nelson;  grandparents:  Oscar & Hilda Nelson and Otto & Charlotte Schroeder. 

Visitation for family and friends:  5 to 7pm, Thursday, April 12, 2018 at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
