Joel Williams

Joel D. Williams, 64, West Fargo, ND died on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.

Joel Dean Williams was born on August 18, 1954 in Fargo to John and Violet (Stundahl) Williams.  Joel grew up in Halstad, MN graduating from Halstad High School in 1972.  In 1979 he moved to Bemidji, MN and in 1980 married Denise Swiggum.  Together the couple had two daughters, Nicole and Danielle.  They moved to West Fargo in 1983 where Joel went to work at Hal’s retail store as the manager in West Acres.  In 1987 … we think, he began his career as a realtor until he retired in 2005.  The last few years he enjoyed his new morning job at Menards, stocking shelves, and visiting with his coworkers.

Joel was known for his big heart, willingness to help others, and his laugh.  He would spend time with his mother in the nursing home she was in and would do all sorts of activities with her.  He would do maintenance projects for his daughters and others without them even knowing it, decorate for the different holidays for his grandchildren, who meant a great deal to him. His greatest joys were spending time outside working in his yard; he was a true horticulturist.  He loved to take his dog Koa for walks and drives. He not only enjoyed learning about history, he also enjoyed reading about all the new technologies that are happening.

Joel is survived by his two daughters: Nicole (Josh Markel) Williams, of West Fargo, and Danielle Williams, of Fargo; three grandchildren: Malia Markel, Quinn Markel, and Hewitt Williams; four siblings: Diana Weaver, of Fargo, Larry (Deb) Williams, of Fargo, Roger (Mici) Williams, of Bismarck, ND, and Jim (Kay) Williams, of Grand Forks, ND, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Terry Weaver, and brother-in-law Donn Weaver.

Visitation: Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 12 PM until 1 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo. 

Memorial Service: Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 1 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
