James “Jim” J. Schaefer, 76, Fargo, ND, died on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Bethany on University, Fargo, ND.
James John Schaefer was born on April 29, 1942, at Mott, ND, to Philip and Rosemary (Heinzman) Schaefer. James was taken in and raised by John and Katherine Molitor as a young child and was brought up in Minnewaukan, ND, graduating from Minnewaukan High School. James earned an auto body degree from Wahpeton State School of Science and Hanson Trade School of Fargo. James was united in marriage to Kathy Dawson on October 19, 1963, at Tintah, MN. They lived in Jamestown and moved to West Fargo in 1969, and then moved to Fargo in 2013. He worked at the State Hospital and Trinity Hospital in Jamestown and at Central Auto Supply, Air Mechanical, and Fleet Farm in Fargo. Jim retired from Fleet Farm in 2005.
Jim was a member and charter member at Holy Cross Catholic Church, as well as a member and served on the Parish Council at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts of America, and for ten years he was a PATH parent and family support volunteer.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Fargo, ND; two children: Tim (Dawn) Schaefer, of West Fargo, and Tracy Schaefer, of Aurora, OR; two grandchildren: Blake (Illissa) Schaefer, of Morris, MN, and Grant Schaefer, of Fargo, ND; and one great-grandchild, Ryker Schaefer, of Morris, MN. Other survivors include his brother, Larry (Josie) Schaefer, of Lawson, OK; sisters: Pauline (Melvin) Roemmich, of Jamestown, ND, and Phyllis Wolff, of Fallon, Nevada; sisters-in-law: Jeannie Schaefer, of Vancouver, WA, and Charlene Schaefer, of Corpus Christi, TX.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: George, Fred, and Bill, and brother-in-law, LaVerne Wolff.
Visitation: Tuesday, July 10, 2018, from 5 to 7 PM, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 PM.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 10 AM, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Around 12:15 PM at Holy Cross South Catholic Cemetery, Fargo.
