Bernard Baumler

Bernard J. Baumler, age 90, of West Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, November 19th, at Essentia Health, Fargo.

Bernard Joseph Baumler was born March 20th, 1929 on a farm near Chaffee, ND, the son of Lawrence and Anna (Lysher) Baumler. 

He attended Gill Township Elementary School and graduated from Chaffee High School in 1946.  Bernie served in the Air Force as a mechanic from 1951 to 1953 and then attended NDSU for a short time before he began farming. 

On September 26, 1959, Bernie was united in marriage to Vera Cornelius at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fargo.  Bernie and Vera made their home on a farm near Wheatland, ND where they lived until moving to West Fargo, ND in 2008.

Bernie was a farmer and a builder with an amazing talent to create helpful inventions that he enjoyed sharing with everyone.  His creations ranged from building tractors to remote control airplanes.  Some specific innovations included a homemade front wheel mechanical assist for an International 5488 farm tractor.  He also built several large mowers made from Versatile swather parts.  Many hydraulic-operated, portable fish houses were also built courtesy of Bernie's imagination.  He was a patient teacher in all ways, building and offering training sessions to fly remote control airplanes.  Bernie was a man of few words, but each word spoken was held in high regard by his fortunate listeners.

He is survived by one son Paul, Casselton, ND and one daughter Judy (Jay) Malstrom, Vergas, MN; 4 grandchildren: Vanessa (Abram) Jackson, Christopher (Autumn) Baumler, Garrett Malstrom, Faith Malstrom; 3 great grandchildren: Laela, Chandler & Azalea; sisters Leona Janitell, Centennial, CO and Lorraine (Ronald) Kensok, Casselton, ND. 

Bernie was proceeded in death by his wife, Vera; his parents, Lawrence and Anna Baumler; brothers Clarence, Eddie, Leo, Larry and Ray Baumler; sisters, Elizabeth Jaeb and Patricia Baumler. 

Visitation:   5 - 7 pm Monday, November 25, 2019, in West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center, West Fargo.

Funeral Service:  10:30 am Tuesday, November 26, 2019 in West Funeral Home & Life Tribute Center.

Burial:   St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery, Casselton, ND
