Barbara Burns Helseth

Barbara Burns Helseth, 86, Fargo, ND died on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Sanford Health on Broadway in Fargo.

Barbara Joyce Mackey was born Aug. 12, 1932 at New Castle, PA to Edwin & Verlie (Wheeler) Mackey. She graduated from high school there. Barb married Jim Burns of New Castle. They were married for 23 years and raised 5 children; John, Christopher, Kimberly, Robbie and Michael.  Barb later married Morton Helseth. They were married for over 35 years and lived Toronto, Canada, Long Beach, CA, Phoenix, AZ and settled back in New Castle, PA.

In July 2014, she moved to Fargo and lived with her son and daughter-in-law until entering Evergreens Assisted Living in Fargo in 2016. Barb enjoyed her time and social activities at the Evergreens. She had a sense of humor, enjoyed traveling, playing golf, crossword puzzles, knitting and enjoyed sweets even though she was a diabetic for 50 years. Barb was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fargo.

Barb is survived by her children, John “Jeb” (Betty Ann) Burns, Carnegie, PA; Christopher (Janice) Burns, Houston, TX, Kimberly Burns, Chandler, AZ, Robbie (Michelle) Burns, New Castle, PA and Michael (Karen) Burns, Fargo.  Ten grandchildren, Adam, Kristen, Alli, Christian, Emma, Kayla, Eric, Mallory, Nikki, Billy; and 4 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morton; brother, Ronnie Mackey; and daughter-in-law, Joanne Burns.

Memorial Service:  Friday, April 26, 2019 at 5 PM at West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior and reception to follow.
