Marvin was born on November 30th, 1935 and was the son of Fred and Perina Hieb. Marvin grew up on a farmstead by Goodrich, ND. At the age of 20, Marvin entered the Army, where he served for two years. He had planned to start farming on his own in the Goodrich area prior to being drafted, upon discharge the land for rent was no longer available. He then moved to Billings Montana where he was employed as a brickmaker. During this time, he married Mayola L. Schlenker. They then moved to Fargo, ND where they were both employed at a truck stop in West Fargo. In 1972, Mayola passed away from Leukemia. On September 20th, 1974 Marvin married again to Deborah J. Lowe. The two divorced ten years later, but it is from this marriage where he was blessed with two daughters. He started a carpet cleaning business in Fargo in the 70’s, Hieb Steamway. He owned and operated this business into the 90’s. Marvin moved back to Goodrich in 1990, where he resided until 2010. He became a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in 2011, this is where he called home until his death.
Marvin enjoyed being outdoors. He was passionate about nature. He loved trees, wildlife and gardening. He often went camping when his children were young and enjoyed visiting different places in his RV later in life.
