William "Bill" Phelan

William “Bill” Phelan, 91, Fargo, ND, died on September 11, 2024, at Eventide Nursing Home in Fargo, ND.

Bill was born on September 12, 1932, to John and Florence (Wall) Phelan in Kimberly, Wisconsin. After graduating from high school in 1952, Bill joined the Air Force. He entered aviation cold training and graduated December 19, 1964, receiving his wings and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He served 34 years, 15 were active duty, and then 19 years in the Air National Guard.  He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel on July 20, 1987.  While serving in the Air National Guard, he also taught school for 3 years in Perham, MN and 3 years in New Berlin, WI.

Bill was married in September 1957 to Shirley (Schumacher) and had 2 children, Michael and Jennifer. He then met and married the love of his life, Kay, in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; daughter, Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Shirley; son, Michael; grandson, Dustin; brothers, Bob and John; and sisters, Florence and Alice.

Interment:  Friday, September 20, 2024, at 11 AM, Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
