Wesley Briggs Obituary

Wesley Robert Briggs, 75, passed away May 19, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer, at his home in West Fargo. He was surrounded by love from family and friends and under the care of Sanford Hospice.

Wesley “Wes” was born January 4, 1947, in Fargo, ND, to William and Lillian (Palmquist) Briggs. He grew up in Moorhead, MN learning the meaning of working hard in his parent’s greenhouse business. After the death of his parents at an early age, Wes came to live with Lucille and Roy Videen and their family in Moorhead. Because of Lucille and Roy’s generous love and support of Wes as guardian parents, he became an integral part of their family.

Wes graduated from Moorhead State College High School “Campus School” in 1965. He furthered his education by graduating from Area Vocational Technical School, Thief River Falls, MN in 1967 in Auto Mechanics and Moorhead Area Technical Institute, Moorhead, MN in 1969 in Diesel Mechanics.

After graduation, Wes worked for Ziegler Caterpillar in Minneapolis on heavy construction equipment. In time, he returned to the Fargo/Moorhead area and became a tanker semi driver for Cenex (CHS), Dixon Bros., and Flying J. In the 1990’s he was the Drive Train Supervisor for Classic Roadsters of Fargo. Wes retired in December 2014 from Pilot/Flying J as Transportation Manager. After retirement, he enjoyed driving for area farmers, elevators and Steffes Group.

Wes was united in marriage to Linda Finch on August 12, 1978, at Fort Snelling Chapel, Minneapolis, MN. From this union, two children were born, Robert Wesley and Lori Elizabeth. Wes was very proud of his family and took great pride in all of their accomplishments.

Wes was a cowboy at heart. He loved horses and anything western. He experienced rodeos, cattle drives, raising and breeding registered quarter horses, and even trail rides (only because Linda made him do it). On a horse, he was a free spirit.

Wes also enjoyed camping and fishing. He was proud of his fishing boat and always ready to search out the next big walleye. In later years, he became a rock-solid Bison football fan and tailgater. Many happy memories were made during football games, on the Bison tailgate lot, and trips to championship games in Frisco, TX.

Wes and Linda shared a love and passion for cars. About 15 years ago, he satisfied a lifelong dream to own a Corvette. He enjoyed being a member of the Northern Lights Corvette Club and participating in Club events.

Wes is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda Briggs, of West Fargo, ND; son Robert (Jessica) Briggs, of Vernal, UT and daughter Lori (fiancé Trevor Forst), of Kindred, ND; grandchildren, Anthony, TJ, Kathryn and Ryan. He is also survived by his sister, Ruthie Haug, of Florida, sister-in-law, Leda Bofferding, of California, guardian brothers, Joe Videen, Robert (Judy) Videen, Gary Videen, and Steve (Gloria) Videen and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his guardian parents, parents-in-law Albert and Virginia Finch, brother Richard Bofferding, guardian brother Don Videen and sister Helen Nicol.
