Wayne Sanders Obituary

Wayne Sanders, age 65, of Mapleton, ND, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Sanford Medical Center following complications after the removal of a brain tumor.

Wayne Howard Sanders was born on May 24, 1955 in Rochester, MN, to John W. and Ramona (Johnson) Sanders.

He graduated from Mapleton High School, Mapleton, ND.  While in high school, Wayne played football, was senior class president and went to Boys State.  Wayne loved to snowmobile, trips to Hoot Owl with friends, Saturday breakfast and noon lunch dates with his friends.   His biggest passion was sprint car racing.  Wayne enjoyed working on sprint cars and going to sprint races – especially the World of Outlaws.  He traveled all over the country to go to the races.    He wasn’t going to let the pandemic keep him from his friends.   They would sit in a circle in Wayne’s driveway on Wednesdays and socialize “Covid style”.  Wayne will be missed by his friends and family.

Wayne worked at Larson’s Supervalu in West Fargo, Quality Bakery in Fargo, and retired after 29 years from Fargo Glass and Paint, Fargo.  He was a volunteer with the Mapleton Fire Department for many years.

He is survived by his 3 sisters, Susan (Bob) Gross, West Fargo, ND, Brenda (Michael) Stasko, Columbus, OH, Sally (Gene) Moore, Piedmont, OH; his brother-in-law Bill McClintick, Sturgis, SD; his nephews Michael and Matthew Stasko, Columbus, Ohio, and Michael Gross, Moorhead, MN; his nieces Maria Swallie, Columbus, OH, and Melisa Eiter, West Fargo; many cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
